South Sudan is the world’s newest nation,a status achieved in 2011 upon seceding and eventually gaining independence from Sudan following a long, protracted civil war that lasted more than three decades.Despite having a sizeable economic potential,South Sudan still faces a lot of challenges including institutional weaknesses, limited physical infrastructure and a weak human capital base that must be overcome if the potential is to be maximized IMF,2012.Foreign Direct Investment(FDI)could play an important role in ensuring these challenges are overcome,to a certain degree through positive economic changes at both macro and micro levels of development in a developing country such as South Sudan. This research project is aimed at studying the factors attracting FDI inflow in South Sudan,Specifically, the study identifies a number of factors that influence FDI flow to South Sudan these are GDP growth, imports, and exports, natural resources on oil, infrastructure development, exchange rate and low inflation rate in the country. The study presents time series data analysis of the findings obtained from secondary data sources from South Sudan and Sudan over the period of 2008 to 2018 presented in monthly. The different sources of data are acquired from World Development Indicators,National Bureau of Statistics,UNCTAD,IMF,and World Bank, etc.used in this study as well as the findings of the analysis based on the objectives of the study.Based on the study attempted to address the FDI inflow by investigating the main variables that have an influence on FDI inflow into South Sudan. After a critical assessment of the literature review available. The study made a couple of conclusions from the hypotheses analysis conducted using E-views software tool to determine correlation and significance of the correlation between pairs of variables being investigated. The empirical results show that the presence of FDI in the country has helped to increase the economic growth of the nation. The study recommends that in the future, more studies should be conducted to understand these relationships using secondary data.Future studies should then be able to conduct regression analysis using time series data model like OLS in order to determine all tests and correlation hypotheses eve better.
