Under the background of new normal economic development,enterprises which requires enterprises to constantly innovate and refine management need to improve their competitiveness more and more.Business mode innovation is an important driving force for enterprise innovation.Although many entrepreneurs and scholars have recognized the importance of business model innovation,there are still many doubts about its influencing factors and internal process analysis.In such a dynamic and complex environment,the top management team which decides the innovation strategy of enterprises plays a huge role.At present,there are only a few researches on TMT heterogeneity and business mode innovation.Therefore,this paper introduces the Upper Echelon Theory to explore the impact of the heterogeneity of top management team on business model innovation.However,the influence of top management team on enterprises is a complex process.This paper introduces the theory of knowledge creation to study the relationship between top management team and enterprise business model innovation from a new perspective.This study explores the impact of top management team heterogeneity(age heterogeneity,tenure heterogeneity,education level heterogeneity,education specialty heterogeneity)on business model innovation,and the impact of top management team heterogeneity on business model innovation through intermediary variable knowledge creation.The impact of business model innovation.After sorting out and analyzing many literatures,this study takes domestic SMEs as the research sample,carries out a questionnaire survey,and 268 valid questionnaires are collected from 117 enterprises.The questionnaire scale of this study is based on the more mature scale abroad.This study used SPSS21.0 to analyze the reliability and validity of the variables in the questionnaire and proved that the data had a certain degree of reliability and validity;then,through multi-level regression analysis,we verified the influence of age heterogeneity and educational specialty heterogeneity of top management team on business model innovation and knowledge creation in top management team.Age heterogeneity and the mediating role of educational heterogeneity and business model innovation.The results show that age heterogeneity of top management team has a negative impact on business model innovation,educational level heterogeneity has a proof effect on business model innovation,age heterogeneity has a negative impact on knowledge creation,and educational level heterogeneity has a negative impact on knowledge creation.Knowledge creation has a significant positive impact on business model innovation.According to the research results,this paper puts forward two suggestions on business model innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises:first,to build a reasonable high-level management team.Enterprises need to examine their own characteristics of the top management team,enhance the age heterogeneity of the top management team,as far as possible to maintain the diversity of the background of the top management team;second,strengthen the internal knowledge exchange and combination capabilities.Enterprises must attach importance to the role of top management team,and maintain a high level of knowledge creation ability,to maintain an advantage in the increasingly fierce competition.
