Research On The Effect Of Manufacturing Agglomeration On Regional Economic Growth

By studying domestic and foreign theories related to manufacturing agglomeration and economic growth,this paper collects relevant data of manufacturing industry in pan-pearl river delta region,and calculates the location entropy index of manufacturing industry in pan-pearl river delta region at provincial level,industry level,and provincial sub-industry level,as well as the manufacturing EG index of pan-pearl river delta region at industry level.Then,the panel data model was established by taking the total industrial output value of all manufacturing industries in the pan-pearl river delta region from 2005 to 2016 as explained variables and the location entropy index and EG index at the industry level as independent variables.Moreover,in pan-pearl river delta regional nine provinces from 2005 to 2016 is per capita regional GDP,as explained variable,respectively,with 19 industry manufacturing calculated location entropy index as the explained variable,19 panel data model is set up.In order to test the influence of industrial agglomeration level of the 19 industry manufacturing in pan-pearl river delta on their economic growth,the first and second terms of location entropy of each industry were added into the model.The influence of the measurement results show that the level of industrial agglomeration in every effect on economic growth were linearly to promote,is inverted "U" type and positive "U" type.The industries with positive "U" influence effect include tobacco manufacturing,textile manufacturing and special purpose machinery manufacturing industry.The industries with inverted u-shaped influence include food from agricultural products manufacturing,manufacture of food,paper and paper products manufacturing,computer communication and other equipment manufacturing industry,etc.Some industries,such as manufacture of medicines,general purpose machinery manufacturing,and manufacture of transport equipment,have a linear promote effect on economic growth.To sum up,the measurement results show that the manufacturing industry agglomeration in the pan-pearl river delta region does not merely promote its economic growth continuously,but presents a variety of different effects.Based on the above measurement results,it is clear that the manufacturing industry agglomeration in the pan-pearl river delta region may promote or inhibit the economic growth.This paper further analyzes the factors affecting the manufacturing industry agglomeration in the pan-pearl river delta region.In the selection of pan-pearl river delta regional manufacturing 19 industry is divided into labor-intensive industry,technology-intensive industry and capital-intensive industry,the calculated location entropy index or EG index of pan-pearl riverdelta provinces from 2005 to 2016 in manufacturing of provincial level and manufacturing labor-intensive industry,technology-intensive industry and capital-intensive industry is respectively as the explained variable,five influencing factors including the length of traffic lines,the intensity of labor employment in the manufacturing industry,the level of opening-up,the level of science and technology,and the level of urbanization were selected as explanatory variables.Then set up four panel data model to analyze,and the regression results show that the more complex the traffic line network is,the higher the level of opening to the outside world is,the higher the level of science and technology is,and the higher the urbanization rate is,the greater the driving effect will be on the industrial agglomeration to manufacturing industry,however,the intensity of labor employment in manufacturing industry has positive and negative effects on the industrial agglomeration.By defining the direction and extent of the influence of industrial agglomeration level affected the above five influence factors on the pan-pearl river delta manufacturing,combined with the pan-pearl river delta manufacturing industry agglomeration level impact on the economic growth effect,this paper gives the corresponding countermeasure and the suggestion,in order to better play to the pan-pearl river delta manufacturing industry agglomeration for its role in promoting economic growth.
