Research On Trade Facilitation And Industrial Development In Western Regions

After the global financial crisis,international trade entered a period of low growth,trade protectionism began to rise.Trade facilitation aimed at simplifying,coordinating international trade procedures and reducing trade costs was significantly accelerated,which is of great significance to a country’s economic development.As a promoter and beneficiary of economic globalization,China attaches great importance to and always insists on promoting trade facilitation to promote foreign trade to a higher level.Under the background of “Belt and Road”,the western region of China has ushered in the best period of policy opportunities.Under this background,research on trade facilitation and industrial development in the western region will not only expand the scope of trade facilitation research,but also provide policy implications for opening up and promote high-quality development of the industry.This paper first sorts out and summarizes the related research on trade facilitation and industrial development,and puts forward two effects of trade facilitation on industrial development: total effect and structural effect.Then,based on the data of 85 cities in the western region from 2007 to 2016,a comprehensive index system for trade facilitation was established.After a general understanding of the historical process of trade facilitation in the western region,taking empirical tests based on trade facilitation and its domain indicators as explanatory variables,industrial growth rate,optimization of industrial structure and rationalization of industrial structure as explanatory variables.The research shows that the total effect of trade facilitation in the western region on the industrial development of the western region is significant,that is,trade facilitation promotes industrial development;trade facilitation significantly promotes the optimization of industrial structure of the western region,but the rationalization of industrial structure is not obvious;in addition,FDI dependence,human capital,and thousands of bus numbers also have impact on industrial development in the western region.Finally,based on the previous research conclusions,the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.
