With the financial products and services evolve rapidly these years, financial consumers have more investment choices than before. However,it's more possible that the financial consumer rights would be violated. That leads the regulatory authorities paying more attention to the protection work. From a regional perspective,we find that the level of financial consumer rights protection in urban areas is different from that in rural areas because Chinese economic development has the urban-rural dual structure. Therefore,it's significant to strengthen the financial consumer rights protection in both urban and rural areas and optimize the regional financial ecosystem by putting forward pertinent suggestions based on the research of the differences and causes. This thesis uses the data of the questionnaires of the project--Assessing the environment of Qingdao financial consumer rights protection and divides the samples into urban group and rural group for further research. Then the thesis uses reliability and validity test to verify the reliability and validity of the questionnaire and uses principal component analysis to extract the indicators and calculate the comprehensive score of the variables. At last, the thesis uses multiple linear regression models to conduct empirical analysis to explore the urban-rural differences of factors which influence financial consumers rights and put forward proposals. The result shows that the factors including consumer financial literacy, recognition of the popularity of financial education, information disclosure, personal information rights, age, degree of education and family monthly income have urban-rural differences.First, recognition of the popularity of financial education and information disclosure have more significant effect which shows positive in urban areas than that in rural areas. What's more,it shows the result that the personal information rights has positive effects as well, but it has a stronger impact in rural areas.Second, the effect of consumer financial literacy on the level of financial consumer rights protection isn't significant, which shows positive in urban areas and negative in rural areas. Finally, according to the result of age,it's more effective to improve the level of financial consumer rights protection by offering more protecting services to middle-aged financial consumers in rural areas but in urban areas it's not effective.According to the result of degree of education, offering protection to the highly educated people in urban area shows negative effect, and it is not significant in rural areas.According to the result of family monthly income,in urban areas it's more effective to improve the level of financial consumer rights protection by offering more protecting services to middle-income and high-income financial consumers but it's not significantly effective in rural areas.Above all,the thesis makes the following suggestions: First, improving the popularity of financial education. All institutions and organizations should be more active and carry out different types of financial education activities based on the urban and rural features.Second, enhancing the protection of personal information rights.Authorities should establish a personal database on the Internet and focus on helping rural financial consumers update and protect their financial information.Third, improving the information disclosure system. The authorities should establish the information disclosure system which allows the authorities to have full-time tracking throughout the city and focus on supervising financial institutions.Fourth,in urban areas, the authorities should take the advantages of developed information system to take more protections to middle-income and high-income financial consumers. In rural areas, they should keep focusing on enhancing the protection of middle-aged financial consumer rights and trying to make protection work cover all districts.
