China's transportation industry has experienced rapid recovery since the early days of thefounding of New China, and has been rapidly catching up since the reform and opening up.It has shifted from the early overall lag and comprehensive tension to the current basic adaptation stage, and has been called a veritable transportation power. However, the development of China's transportation industry still has problems such as “big but not strong, and the structure is not optimized”.Especially in the contribution of the transportation industry to the national economy, there is still a big gap with powerful transportation countries. Then, how can we better implement the strategy of " building China's strength in transportation " proposed by the 19 th National Congress,so that China can transition from a "a country with big transportation network " to " a country with strong transportation network " faster and better? Building a strong transportation country requires history as a guide. It is necessary to understand and learn the development process and evolution of the transportation industry in developed countries. This paper takes one of the world-recognized country with strong transportation network---US as an example, studying the evolution laws and characteristics of its transportation industry from the perspective of industrial correlation, and clarifying the experience and lessons in its development process,in order to provide reference for the construction of China's transportation powers.First of all,on the basis of reviewing domestic and foreign research, combined with the development of the three industrial structure changes in the United States, this paper divides the United States from 1947 to 2016 into two stages of industrialization and post-industrial society, which laid foundation for the analysis of the US transportation industry.A conclusion can be drawn that demand has shifted from low-end manufacturing to emerging technology industries, and as the industrialization process in the United States continues to deepen, the differences in the degree of correlation between industries have narrowed, which laying the foundation for analyzing the development of the US transportation industry.Secondly, using the input-output data between 1947 and 2016 of the United States as a tool, using the multiplier product matrix analysis, structural decomposition technique, scale influence coefficient, scale sensitivity coefficient and so on to explore the evolution of correlation effects, industrial ripple effects and industrial growth effects of US transportation industry. The study found that with the deepening of the industrialization process in theUnited States, the demand for the national economy in the transportation industry has transformed from a low-tech manufacturing industry to a high-tech emerging industry,in line with the changing trend of US economic demand; The supply of the national economy in the transportation industry is still driven by the supply of manufacturing. In addition,in the later stage of industrialization, the US transportation industry has relatively high economic driving force, pulling power and its own growth level. However, after entering the post-industrial society stage, the development of the US transportation industry began to decline. The slowdown in transportation growth, are explained from the changed economic demand, the decline of transportation manufacturing industry and the weakening of investment in transportation industry. Finally, taking the input-output data in the later stage of China's industrialization as a tool, through analyzing the industrial correlation indicators such as the scale influence coefficient of China's transportation industry, analyzing the development status, problems and deficiencies of China's transportation industry development, and proposes to increase China's integration of the transportation industry with emerging industries, improving the quality of transportation services, attaching importance to the development of transportation manufacturing, and increasing investment and R&D investment.
