Developing From Entrepreneur's Bricolage To Employees' Bricolage

In recent years,the Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovations fuels China's entrepreneurial enthusiasm.Entrepreneurial activities become richer and more diverse,and entrepreneurial economy is booming.However,the inherent “Liability of Newness and Smallness" of new enterprises seriously restrict the development.Bricolage is considered as an effective way to alleviate new enterprises' resources dilemma.In the process of setting up a new enterprise from scratch,bricolage emerges constantly.After the establishment,it is difficult to meet the resource demand of the whole enterprise only the entrepreneurs' bricolage.Moreover,the enterprises which are set up in this way own most of the non-standardized resources.Therefore,in order to survive the market,employees,as the main users of resources,must also be able to bricolage.On the one hand,they need to make use of these non-standardized resources to provide suitable products and to achieve the expected results.On the other hand,employees need to put their own knowledge resources together with other resources to realize the maximum utility of resources.Only in this way,can startups overcome resource constraints and gain growth.Therefore,the aim of this paper is to reveal how the start-up enterprises develop collective bricolage from entrepreneurs' bricolage.Existing literatures suggest that empowerment plays an important role in the formation of collective bricolage.And this paper uses the perspective of empowerment to study how new enterprises develop collective bricolage from entrepreneurs' bricolage.Meanwhile,Given that the case study method is suitable to answer the "how" question and the novice and serial entrepreneurs have different resource bases,this paper selects two cases to do a comparative case study.One is founded by novice entrepreneur called Handu,the other is founded by serial entrepreneur called Dami.We aim to reveal the path of entrepreneurs' bricolage to collective bricolage in these two cases.We found that novice entrepreneurs' bricolage can produce structural and psychological empowerment,which promote the emergence of collective bricolage.Serial entrepreneurs' bricolage can promote the formation of collective bricolage through resource and psychological empowerment.The collective bricolage can lead to the next entrepreneurs' bricolage through resource empowerment.The conclusion of this paper not only compares the bricolage behaviors of the two types of entrepreneurs,enriching the application of theempowerment perspective in the context of startups,but also reveals the different paths of entrepreneurs' bricolage to collective bricolage under different resource bases.Thus,this paper contributes to both researchers and practitioners.
