A Study On Spatial-Temporal Evolution Measurement And Influencing Factors Of The Regional Economic Disparity In Guangdong Province

After the reform and opening up,the country implemented the unbalanced development strategy.With its own advantages,Guangdong province has achieved rapid economic development and become the first province in China's economy.At the same time of remarkable achievements in economic development,the disparity of regional economic development in Guangdong province has been gradually revealed.There is a big economic disparity between the Pearl River delta region of China and the east and northwest Guangdong,which is not conducive to the improvement of the overall competitiveness of Guangdong province and will hinder the economic development level of Guangdong province to a higher level of development.In this context,this paper attempts to conduct an empirical study on the regional economic disparity in Guangdong province in the past 40 years since the reform and opening up,and then,to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of the regional economic disparity since the reform and opening up,explore the reasons for the disparity in Guangdong province,and think about the effective ways to solve the current economic disparity in Guangdong province.This paper firstly sorts out the theories and research literature related to regional economic disparity,which also lays a theoretical foundation for the whole paper.Secondly,this paper expounds the regional division of Guangdong province,the historical process of economic development and the main manifestation of economic disparity.thirdly,based on the data of per capita GDP of 21 cities in Guangdong province from 1979 to 2017,this paper measured the temporal characteristics of regional economic disparity of Guangdong province through absolute disparity index and relative disparity index.Then,the spatial characteristics of economic disparity in Guangdong province are measured by Nature Breaks,Dagum's Gini coefficient decomposition and ESDA.Finally,this paper makes a descriptive and empirical analysis of the reasons for the economic disparity in Guangdong from the following aspects: geographical location,economic foundation,cultural concept,government policy,marketization,industrial structure,opening to the outside world,material capital,human capital and technology progress.This paper comes to the following four conclusions:Firstly,from the GDP and other important measures of national economic development level,the east and northwest of Guangdong province and the pearl river delta region in a number of indicators are in an inferior position and the disparity between the two regions is huge.Secondly,in terms of time dimension,since the reform and opening up,the absolute disparity of economic development in Guangdong province has been expanding.The relative disparity has obvious characteristics of stages,which conforms to Williamson's inverted u-shaped development theory on the whole.Thirdly,in terms of spatial dimension,the regional economic development disparity in Guangdong province presents an obvious " the Pearl River delta region of China-east and northwest Guangdong" center-periphery binary structure,and there is a significant spatial correlation between the cities as a whole.Fourthly,at the provincial level,government policies,marketization,industrial structure,openness to the outside world,material capital,human capital and technological progress have a significant positive impact on the economic growth of Guangdong province.At the regional level,government policy,industrial structure,openness to the outside world and material capital have a significant positive impact on the economic growth of the Pearl River delta region of China and the east and northwest Guangdong.Marketization,human capital and technology progress only have a significant positive impact on the economic growth of the Pearl River delta region of China.Based on the above analyses and conclusions,this paper puts forward the following four suggestions: we should accelerate the construction of infrastructure in the east and northwest of Guangdong;We should increase the investment in the east and northwest of Guangdong;We should accelerate the implementation of the "double transfer" strategy;We need to accelerate the development of growth poles in the eastern and northwestern regions of Guangdong.
