| Urban development is the symbol of national progress.With the acceleration of urbanization,urban competitiveness has become a hot topic for scholars.According to the statistics,8.88%of the total population of coastal cities in mainland China produced 69.91%of the gross national product in 2016.Coastal cities play an important role in the process of social and economic development.In today’s urbanization process full of opportunities and challenges,it is of great significance to study the competitiveness of coastal cities and provide feasible suggestions for urban development.This paper evaluates and analyses the competitiveness of coastal cities in mainland China.On the basis of referring to the researches of previous scholars on urban competitiveness,according to the actual situation of coastal cities,an urban competitiveness evaluation system is established form the five aspects of economy,society and culture,environment,international and ocean.Factor analysis is used to quantitatively evaluate the competitiveness of coastal cities,On the basis of competitiveness score,cluster analysis is used to classify coastal cities.Based on the 2016 data,the paper analyzes cities with competitive advantages in comprehensive competitiveness,economic competitiveness,social and cultural competitiveness,environmental competitiveness,international attractiveness and marine competitiveness in coastal cities and the indicators which have positive effect on economic,social and cultural,environmental,international and marine competitiveness.In the economic competitiveness,the impact of retail sales per capita of consumer goods is stronger.In social and cultural competitiveness,indicators such as per capita fiscal expenditure have a positive impact on it.In the international attractiveness,indicators such as the number of inbound passengers have a positive impact on them.In the environmental competitiveness,the impact of industrial wastewater discharge and industrial sulfur dioxide emissions is stronger.In marine competitiveness,the impact of port cargo throughput and the 10,000-ton berths of the terminal is stronger.In the classification analysis,the coastal cities are divided into four categories,and some competitive characteristics of each category of cities are found.The international attractiveness and marine competitiveness of the second category of cities differ greatly in scores and rankings.The economic,social and cultural competitiveness of the third category of cities generally have more competitive advantages than the other three competitiveness. |
