With the enhancement of the city’s status as a tourist destination, more and more touristsflock to the excellent tourism city. Coastal cities have stronger competitiveness are preferreddestination among tourist groups, which are the good economy in coastal cities. Then, urbandevelopment ability depends on the competitive strength, and city tourism competitiveness isone part of the urban competitiveness. Researching on urban tourism competitiveness canhelp to improve the city competitiveness under the background of tourism becoming theimportant economic benefits in more and more cities. Based on reviewing and combing theresearches on city tourism competitiveness at home and abroad, we set up the index systemthat conforms to this study: based on urban tourism infrastructure, development situation, andecological environment competitiveness as the secondary indicators, and25other indicatorsrelated to city tourism competitiveness as tertiary indicators. On the basis of this study, weused principal component analysis and system clustering analysis method to measure factorscore and ranking of the cities, and comparatively analysed the advantages and disadvantagesbetween levels, cities and the areas. The results show that tourism competitiveness ofShanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou were relatively stronger, and Nantong, Zhongshan,Dongguan were relatively weaker. And city economies scale, environmental pollution andurban greening level influence more to urban tourism competitiveness. Gradient level issignificant between urban tourism competiveness, prospects of cooperation and ladder-likecollocation development are good. City cooperation advantages outweigh competitiveadvantages in the same region, and we can set up pilot region of tourism cooperation. Finally, with taking Dalian as an example, this paper emphatically analyzes its tourismcompetitiveness basing on the conclusions above mentioned of the research, and puts forwardconstructive strategies for the future tourism development in dalian, hoping to providetheoretical reference for urban competitiveness. The full text content is as follows:The first chapter is the introduction, mainly expounding the research background, basicconcepts and theoretical basis, research significance, research methods and technical route. The second chapter is the research progress at home and abroad, and choose the researchperspective of this paper. The third chapter is about evaluation method and index system research of tourismcompetitiveness in the major coastal cities. This paper introduces the principal component analysis (PCA) and the cluster methods to evaluate the urban tourism competitiveness in thebasis of carding and reviewing related literature at home and abroad. And on this basis offollowing four principles including synthesis, scientific, contrast, KMO value feasibility, thispaper sets up index system. The fourth chapter is about empirical research on the major coastal city tourismcompetitiveness analysis, it analyzes coastal cities according to the results of the quantitativecalculation. The fifth chapter gives some suggestions about promoting Dalian urban tourismCompetitiveness. Finally, the sixth chapter sums up main research achievements and the innovations, analyzes insufficiencies and discuss, and points out areas for further study.
