Under the background of the construction of characteristic towns,tourism characteristic towns,because of their clear industrial characteristics,can integrate urbanization construction and tourism development,so they have received extensive attention and many practices.From the results,the quality of tourism towns is uneven.There are not only star towns such as Wu Zhen and Yuan Village,but also failure cases such as Long Tan Water Village and Bai Lu Yuan Cultural Scenic.The construction of tourism characteristic towns can't be accomplished overnight.Systematic planning and continuous innovation investment are needed.Innovation is the necessary guarantee for tourism characteristic towns to obtain lasting attraction.The existing research pays more attention to the connotation excavation,content production and characteristic importance of tourism characteristic towns,but pays less attention to the specific development process of tourism characteristic towns.Tourism innovation is influenced by the perspective of technological innovation,and tends to static analysis,which can't explain the innovation process of tourism characteristic towns.Based on the analysis of the development process of Beijing Wtown from 2010 to 2019,this study explores the growth path of tourism characteristic towns and the innovative mechanism behind it.Through the research,it is found that:(1)From the time axis of development,tourism characteristic towns can be divided into construction period,promotion period and upgrade period.Because the development of tourism characteristic towns is not a one-step process,different development strategies are needed to dynamically match the needs of market segments.In terms of growth path,it can be divided into three stages:tourism space-time conversion stage focused on scenarios,consumption symbol establishment stage focused on leisure demand,and product iteration innovation stage focused on value enhancement.The driving force of leading development has undergone a driving evolution from industrial capital introduction to organizational technology integration to knowledge accumulation and creation.(2)Based on the dimensions of capital,knowledge and technology,the development path of tourism characteristic towns is constructed.The knowledge brokers and the role of knowledge flow in the development of tourism characteristic towns are enhanced.Through the integration of organizational learning and organizational integration,the products of tourism characteristic towns are upgraded iteratively and the service quality is optimized continuously.The interaction between knowledge and technology and capital forms a balanced state of mutual dependence and complementarity.Finally,the value promotion is regarded as a strategic goal to support the sustainable development of the tourism characteristic towns.(3)With the evolution of operation environment,the growth of tourism characteristic towns needs innovation to obtain sustainable competitive advantage.By introducing the concept of"ambidexterity innovation",this paper explores the production of innovative behavior and the accumulation process of innovative performance in tourism characteristic towns,and extends the theory of ambidexterity innovation to the management analysis of tourism industry.By analyzing the innovation mechanism of the development process of tourism characteristic towns,it is found that exploitative innovation and exploratory innovation contribute to the innovation performance in different periods of the growth of tourism characteristic towns.The two innovations have played a role in the preparatory period before the construction period.The perspective of ambidexterity innovation complements the dynamic description of tourism innovation and enriches the existing research on specific tourism innovation results such as products and services.
