In the context of economic globalization, multinational companies have injected new vitality into the world economy, and internationalization has become an important means for many companies to survive. The “Belt and Road” initiative launched by the Chinese government in recent years supports enterprises “going out” and “walking in”.However, each company's internationalization process is different. Some companies like expanding gradually, while some companies have started foreign markets business at the beginning of their establishment. Some enterprises prefer to penetrate into one target country's market,as well as some companies prefer to establish internatio na l network markets in multiple countries. However, not all international companies can achieve the desired results. Many companies have performed badly in the early days of internationalization, and even once on the verge of bankruptcy.Even companies with similar internationalization processes may not be able to achieve the same performance. The Upper Echelons Theory emphasizes that the international experience of TMT and CEO duality have an important impact on firm internationalization. However, existing studies have divergence on the realationship between these two and internationalization. In addition, although there are many studies on the relations hip between internationalization and performance, they have not reached a consistent and effective conclusion. So,how does the TMT's international experience and CEO duality affect the internationalization of the company? What is the relationship between the internationalization and firm performance? Are there differences in the conclusio ns between the Chinese companies and Western companies? In order to solve the above problems, the study use the Meta analysis, attempting to analyze the general relationship between the international experience of the top management team,CEO duality, firm internationalization and performance.Through quantitative analysis of 197 valid literatures with a total of 292,603 samples, the results show that(1)the international experience of the TMT is positively related to the internationalization process of the enterprise.(2)The CEO duality is positively related to the internationalization process of enterprises, and there are significant differe nces between China and the West.(3)The internationalization process is positively related to corporate performance, and it has a more positive impact on Western companies than Chinese companies.(4)The measurement, industry and home country economy have a regulating effect on the relationship between internationalization and corporate performance, but the regulating effect of the enterprise scale is not significant. The innovative contribution of this paper lies in three aspects: Firstly, suppleme nt the study of internationalization at the individual level.Previous research on the influencing factors of internationalization has focused on the macro and organizatio na l levels, and the focus on the senior management team is relatively insufficient. We explore the impact of the TMT international experience and CEO duality on the firm internationalization.Secondly, solve the inconsistency of the previous research conclusions. We further clarifie the relationship between internationalization and corporate performance, and explore the reasons behind the differences.Thirdly, break through the constraints of individual country data.Previous studies often used enterprise panel data from a single country, making it difficult to compare Chinese companies with Western companies. We expand the cross-scenario study of enterprise internationalization based on sample data from multiple countries.
