With the title of "world wood factory",China imports a large number of timber raw materials such as logs from abroad and exports wood-based forest products such as wood-based panels abroad. In terms of output, trade volume and trade value,China's forest products come out in front in the world. But there are still some problems: the import and export market of China's forest products is relatively concentrated;the grade and quality of China's forest products need to be improved;the legality in the trade of timber raw materials is controversial. These problems need to be solved. The proposal of the Silk Road Economic Belt provides a platform and an opportunity for China to seek more inclusive and open cooperation. This study takes the countries along the Silk Road as the object to analyze the forest products trade status and characteristics.Russia has a strong export competitiveness in roundwood and sawnwood, while China has a prominent advantage in wood-based panels, paper and paperboard.Georgia exports logs and imports a considerable amount of logs to meet the consumption demand of different levels at home and abroad.Kazakhstan,Uzbekistan,Pakistan and Iran mainly rely on imports to meet the demand for wood-based panel.Trade with Pakistan,India,Iran,Jordan and Russia is closer on wood-based panels, paper and cardboard, and with Georgia,Russia and Ukraine on logs.In primary forest products,it has trade complementarity with Russia and Belarus. In the export of wood-based panels and paper and paperboard,it has complementarity with Iran,Pakistan,India and Turkey.Based on the general principle of index selection, the input-output index and forest product characteristics required by DEA method, combined with the trade characteristics of forest products in different countries, the international competitiveness index system is constructed. The system includes natural resources, management level, scientific and technological development and market.DEA is used to measure its efficiency. On this basis, the Two-stage DEA model is introduced to analyze and compare the international competitiveness of forest products in different countries. It can be concluded that the production, consumption, import and export of forest products are on the rise. The trade with Pakistan,India,Iran,Jordan and Russia is relatively close on wood-based panels, paper and paperboard, while on roundwood, the trade with Georgia,Russia and Ukraine is close.Ukraine and Russia are at the forefront of the countries along the Silk Road Economies Belt, while China is at the upper middle position. There is a need to improve the efficiency in the export process.
