Recently, many studies have shown that affordable housing can help with educational equity. However, soaring and expensive housing costs are hindering affordable housing and educational equity. In this situation, this study reviews unique housing policy of Korea, the Jeonse housing which is affordable and cheap compared to other housing types. The purpose of this study, first,is to look at whether the Jeonse,Korea’s unique way of housing,is more affordable than other types of housing(especially monthly rent).Second,it is to examine effects of Jeonse housing on educational equity.Third,to propose policy implications based on analysis of current policy problems. To analyze whether the Jeonse housing is a more affordable housing type than the monthly rent, this study carried out empirical studies through the Population and Housing Census of Seoul metropolitan in 2017.Also this study examined level of educational equity in districts with high Jeonse housing rates and districts with low Jeonse rates to measure effects of affordable Jeonse housing on educational equity. The result shows that Jeonse housing is more affordable than monthly rent in terms of the 3 dimensions of affordable housing measurement(affordability, stability and adequacy). In addition, level of educational equity indicates that Jeonse housing has a positive effect on educational equity. In this study, the policy implications were proposed based on the results of the above analysis.
