Recently, urban agglomerations become a major spatial form of regional economic development. It is not only an important carrier for the long-term stable development of China's regional economy, but also the representation of the country's core competitiveness in international competition.Studying the industrial spatial linkages of urban agglomerations could help us to understand the spatial structure and development direction within the urban agglomerations, thereby optimizing regional industrial division of labor and collaboration. At present, there have been a lot of researches on regional industrial development, but the interaction between industrial sectors and its changes are less considered in the study of industrial spatial linkages. The existing studies had not yet formed a complete research framework system. In this paper, based on the input-output theory, the gravity model, the city's external function,we establish a theoretical framework for studying the industrial spatial linkages of urban agglomerations. The framework includes:(1)Based on the input-output theory,we measure the ripple effect of the industrial economy, and combined the gradient of sensitivity coefficient and the gradient of influence coefficient of each industry to determine the linkages between each industrial sector and other industrial sectors.Use this concept we determine the intrinsic relationship between industrial sectors in the study area, and provide the foundation for studying the external function of each city in urban agglomeration;(2)We comprehensively evaluate the industrial base of each city based on the intrinsic relationship between industrial sectors and the status quo of each city. After that,we also select some industries of each city which take a obviously advantage in the local area according to the location quotient, and then measure the external service function of each city, and further evaluate the structure and volume of external service industry in each city;(3)We construct an inter-city industrial spatial linkages model.Considering inter-sectoral relationships, external function service, the distance factor and the difference of industrial structure,we construct a model based on the gravity model to study the inter-city industrial spatial linkages. And then we evaluate the spatial characteristics of industrial linkages of urban agglomerations and the intensity of industrial clusters in urban agglomerations, and provide reasonable suggestions for the development of industrial space of urban agglomerations based on the evaluation results. This paper examines the model by taking the middle reaches of the urban agglomeration in the Yangtze River as an example.Firstly, the relationship between various industrial sectors is calculated, the advantageous industries are selected according to the location quotient theory, and the external service function of each city is calculated.Secondly,we calculated the similarity of industrial structure between cities in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Finally, the industrial spatial linkages of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is studied by the inter-city industrial spatial linkages model, and the spatial development axis of the industrial linkages of the urban agglomeration is determined by the strength and spatial characteristics of the industrial linkages. The research results show that the overall industrial linkage of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is not close enough. The industrial clusters are formed within each sub-sector,and the industrial linkages between the plates are insufficient.Wuhan Metropolitan Area has the best industrial division of labor, and Wuhan has formed a significant radiation network connection with its surrounding cities. The intensity of industrial spatial linkages between Xianning,Yueyang and Jiujiang in the hinterland of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is obviously lacking. This research can not only provide new research ideas and methods for industrial research of urban agglomerations, but also provide valuable reference for strengthening industrial spatial linkages and adjusting industrial structure in study areas. This will help to promote healthy and sustainable development in research areas.
