In the 21 st century,China's Internet infrastructure construction has developed rapidly, and the advancement of Internet technology has brought tremendous changes to society. In particular,as a new media technology, the Internet plays an irreplaceable role in reducing costs, reducing search friction, and improving the speed and quality of information dissemination. At present,China has become the world's largest Internet user country, and the Internet has increasingly penetrated and affected people's economic life.At the same time,as a major agricultural country,China's "three rural issues" are fundamental issues related to national economy and people's livelihood. However, since the transformation of the economic system, the growth rate of Chinese farmers' income has gradually slowed down. With the popularization of Internet infrastructure in rural areas, exploring the effect and mechanism of Internet use on rural residents' income will be of great reference significance in exploring new ways for farmers to increase their income and promote China's rural economic development. Therefore, this article focuses on the impact of rural residents' Internet use frequency on personal income. In this regard, based on the rural residents 'micro data and broadband infrastructure macro data from 2010 to 2015,this article explores the effect and mechanism of Internet use on rural residents' personal income. The study found that an increase in the frequency of Internet use can significantly increase the personal income of rural residents, increasing the farmers' personal income by 1.071 at a 1% significance level. After considering the endogenous problems caused by factors such as missing variables and reverse causality, this paper also uses the telecom market concentration and optical cable length provided by the natural experiment of the “Broadband China” reform as instrument variables to prove the robustness of the conclusion of this paper. In addition, this paper also conducted heterogeneity analysis and mechanism analysis. From the perspective of income attributes,Internet use can significantly increase rural residents' income from agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery,non-agricultural occupational income, floating population outflow income and property income, but it has no significant promotion effect on other types of income. From the perspective of the individual attributes of farmers, the use of the Internet can bring significant income-increasing effects to the three types of farmer groups of middle-aged,junior high school and below, party members and trade union status. From the perspective of the impact mechanism, the Internet mainly increases farmers' income through four channels: increasing non-agricultural employment, promoting self-employment,promoting population outflows, and improving human capital. In summary, the use of the Internet has significantly increased the personal income of rural residents, and combined with the results of this study, make the following policy recommendations.First, strengthen the construction of broadband infrastructure in rural areas. The construction of broadband facilities is the hardware foundation for increasing the frequency of farmers' Internet use.In some poor areas, there are still problems with poor signals and unstable network speeds. Therefore,we should further improve the construction of broadband infrastructure and optimize the Internet experience of rural netizens.Secondly, targeted rural Internet training for rural residents to stimulate their informatization awareness.According to the heterogeneity analysis of this article, some farmers have some differences in Internet use.Relevant government departments should provide farmers with equal, convenient, and concise Internet knowledge training, mobilize farmers 'enthusiasm for using the Internet, and stimulate farmers' Internet participation. Finally, effectively use the Internet platform to build a multi-channel income increase channel for rural residents.According to the mechanism analysis of this article, the Internet can promote farmers' income by promoting independent innovation, accelerating the outflow of population, and improving farmers' human capital. On this basis,we should break the plight of rural information islands, expand farmers' income-increasing channels, and realize rural revitalization.
