Countries around the world are paying more and more attentions towards the development of robot industry as related techs on robots are reaching mature stage.As a result,competition between different countries' robot industry are much more intense nowadays.Competitiveness indicators can effectively measure an industry's development status.Since robot industry is a kind of innovative and high technology industry,its technical competitiveness is the most important part of the whole industry's competitiveness.Researches that focus on how to measure technical competitiveness of robot industry are of great significance.This study utilizes patent data to evaluate technical competitiveness of robot industry.After analyzing relative theories on technical competitiveness measurement home and abroad,we promote a set of indicators on technical competitiveness evaluation of general industries.Then using factor analysis,we get a comprehensive and effective model that contains those indicators.In the following empirical part,we research technical competitiveness of robot industry in all provinces of China using the model mentioned above and get a ranking list.Finally,we deeply analyze the reasons of these phenomena and put forward several suggestions to our country's robot industry.The main building blocks of this study are listed below:(1)We compare several similar concepts based on existing studies:competitiveness,enterprise competitiveness,industry competitiveness and technical competitiveness of industry,which becomes a firm foundation for the indicators system of robot industry later.(2)Using patent analysis methods we investigate the competitive situation of technology in global robot industry.For each leading country,we explore the following important questions:a.What are the main assignees in robot industry?b.In which technical field does this country have obvious advantages?c.What' s the situation of patent internationalization?d.Which are the country's core patents?(3)After analyzing relevant literatures on technical competitiveness evaluation,we divide technical competitiveness indicators into four major categories.They are quantitative indicators,qualitative indicators,value-related indicators and cooperative indicators.Considering the practical situation in robot industry,we finally construct a comprehensive evaluation system.Factor analysis was used to compound those indicators.We detect technical competitiveness of robot industry in all provinces of China using the model mentioned above and get a ranking list.The results show that Jiangsu and Beijing rank first in the technical competitiveness rank of the robot industry,and belong to the first team;Guangdong,Shanghai,Shandong,Heilongjiang,Zhejiang and Liaoning provinces and cities,followed by belong to the second team;And other provinces and cities in our country score values close to or less than zero,mostly belongs to the third echelon.Overall,the evaluation results level obviously,and conform to objective expectations.In order to further verify the reliability of the evaluation results,then we infer reasons of the phenomena and give a set of rational suggestions for the development of Chinese robot industry.
