Innovation is the primary driving force for development and an important support for improving the country's comprehensive national strength and core competitiveness.Driven by such innovation,the number of patents in China has risen rapidly in 2019.The quantity of patents are often used to represent the research and development output and innovation achievements,but it cannot completely and accurately measure the value of enterprise innovation.The quality of patents is more important,which plays a decisive role in enterprises,especially technology-intensive enterprises,and is closely related to enterprise performance.Throughout the existing research,there are not many studies on the relationship between the multi-dimensional patent quality and enterprise performance,and the conclusions are different,and to explore the mechanism of patent quality and enterprise performance is even rarer.The transformation of patent quality into enterprise performance is affected by many factors,and the type of technological innovation implemented by the enterprise is one of them.Therefore,it is of great theoretical value and practical significance to explore how patent quality influences enterprise performance and how the type of technological innovation affects the performance transformation of patent quality.Based on the technological innovation theory and resource-based theory,this paper builds a research model,using three indicators of patent cited number,claim number,maintain over six years of patent number to measure the technical dimension,legal dimension and economic dimension of the patent quality,introducing continuous innovation and discontinuous innovation,studying the relationship between technological innovation type,patent quality and enterprise performance.Focusing on 218 companies in the information technology hardware industry,collecting patent data of 2009-2018 from the incopat database,and collecting financial data of 2014-2018 from the WIND database,this paper obtained the following conclusions through hierarchical regression and group regression:(1)The number of patent cited and claims have a significant promotion effect on the enterprise performance,and the promotion effect of the number of patent cited is stronger;(2)The relationship between the number of patents maintained over 6 years and the enterprise performance is not significant;(3)Compared with discontinuous innovation,continuous innovation positively regulates the relationship between the number of patent cited and enterprise performance,the number of claims and enterprise performance,and is a homogeneous regulating variable.Based on the above research conclusions,this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions from the enterprise level and the government level respectively.Finally,in view of the shortcomings of this article,the future research prospects are proposed.It is hoped to provide a certain reference for the performance transformation of enterprise patent quality and the choice of technological innovation type.
