Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents a novel integrated controller for stand-alone wind energy systems. Two digital control techniques for the inverter of the stand-alone wind energy system are studied and compared. They are investigated by computer simulations and validated by experimental tests. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and pulse based dead time compensation are introduced in this thesis to implement control techniques. A system model of the inverter is developed to analyze the inverter system stability. The simulation results are verified on a 1 kVA stand-alone wind turbine prototype. The experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed control technique. The Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) of the inverter output voltage is satisfied for both linear and nonlinear loads.
