A DC motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. A DC motor is the simplest motor of all available kinds. The main advantage of using a DC motor is its ability to control speed and position. For this reason, it is used in many applications such as in VCR's, elevators, CD players, toys, robots, watches, automobiles, subway trains, fans, space ships, air conditioners, refrigerators, and many other places. This thesis focuses on control of a DC motor using different controllers and compares their performances. A simulation model will be developed to identify the performance using SIMULINK/MATLAB tool box. During real-time operation, the proposed model is implemented on a lab-kit DC motor using d-SPACE.
