Studies indicate that children in booster seats have a 59% reduced risk of injury, but there is evidence to suggest that only 18.7% of West Virginia children are in belt positioning booster seats. The purpose of this study is to analyze the understanding of booster seat usage and the perceived barriers to usage among caretakers of children under the age of eight. This study suggests that many of these caretakers do not know when a child can safely be graduated to an adult seatbelt, the proper positioning of the lap belt, or that a child safety seat should be replaced after a crash.
