Abstract/Summary:
This project report provides a literature review and analysis of the process by which smaller police agencies may come to the decision to regionalize a tactical response team and the various strategies that may be available to accomplish this goal. The methodology used for the research was derived from an archival examination of library-based materials including books, periodicals, government reports, and online documents. This paper discusses the history of tactical response teams in law enforcement, the development of regionalization and/or consolidation involving law enforcement agencies, and recent court case decisions involving regionalized law enforcement and tactical teams. The project concludes with an overview and recommendations for future research for smaller police agencies that are considering starting up a regionalized tactical team.
