Abstract/Summary:
Drones, categorized as unmanned aircrafts, has uses in military, law enforcement, agriculture, and research. The rise of drones in various fields brings in its targeted vulnerabilities also. This study analyzed drones applications, vulnerabilities and its connection with cyber security. Though drones usage is endless it possesses a high threat if they are hacked and misused by adversaries. This study examined drones beneficial uses in wide range of application, from play toys to mass destruction weapon. Because of the versatility, drones are used in almost every sector. Drones are vulnerable to hackers when they are not in operation also, because many of them get connected to the Internet. The role of cyber security in drone's configuration is elaborated in this study. Even the smallest of bug in military drones can cost a nation a huge loss. With increasing uses, we have introduced opportunities to hackers to execute sophisticated attacks on drones and bring them down. In extension to this issue, when drones behave erratically, the fall back options to isolate its strange behavior and limiting its authority to control the vehicle is discussed in this study. The defense mechanism of cybersecurity aspect of drones was analyzed to be able to rapidly detect cyberattacks, notify the respective team and correct the system's performance.;Keywords: Cybersecurity, Professor Cynthia Gonnella, intelligence, surveillance, warfare, cyber, GPS, vulnerability.
