Based on a program at the University of Pittsburgh, the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas (UA) initiated the Freshman Engineering Program (FEP) in the fall of 2007. The program's purpose is to introduce students to general principles of engineering while allowing them to explore their discipline. The administrators of FEP wished to see freshman composition integrated into their introductory courses as it was at the University of Pittsburgh. While complete integration may not possible, opportunities exist to tailor freshman composition to the needs of engineering students. This project seeks to outline what such a course would look like, how it would meet both the needs of FEP and state/university requirements for freshman composition, and how implementation would take place.
