Upstate New York's Finger Lakes Region has experienced an influx of Mexican farm labor in the past few decades. An unwilling local labor force has led to the importation of migrants to fulfill the employment need in agriculture, particularly in grape production, dairy farming, and other fruit-picking sectors.;Through the completion of a paper survey, conclusions regarding these migrants are made. The migrants are found to be married with children contrary to migrant selectivity theory. Migrants are found to be coming from a variety of origins through a slew of intermediary locations throughout the United States and Mexico. The migrants are found to be coming to the area for economic opportunity and are finding out about the area from family and friends already working there. Differences are present in regards to the length of stay of migrants and the nature of their work. |
