This thesis will analyze how colonialism, neocolonialism, negative effects of globalization, and the challenging demands of tourism have had a profound impact on the West Indies in order to illustrate that some West Indians have negative attitudes towards tourism and tourists that can be detected during normal host/guest interactions. In order to help understand why West Indians have negative attitudes towards tourism and tourists, it is necessary to gain a comprehensive understanding of tourism-related forms, themes, theories, and effects as well as be informed about the region's history, leaders, political influences, economy, and local tourism development. It also helps to hear about how some West Indians personally feel towards tourism and tourists. Overall, this thesis reveals that the perceptions and relationships between West Indians and tourists are complex. While many West Indians are frustrated with tourism and tourists, they remain steadfast in their need for foreign income and to the region's chief economic avenue.
