Abstract/Summary:
In today's complex and rapidly changing business environment, managers face increasing challenges in information processing and problem solving. Organizations inevitably need employee ideas and thoughts that speed innovation and enhance organizational effectiveness. Without employee input, managers can make incorrect decisions according to inaccurate information. The purpose of the current study was to identify the most salient antecedents of employee voice behavior, a voluntary form of communication that challenges workplace conditions for improvement, even when others disagree. The salient antecedents are the most prominent behaviors promoting employee voice that were identified by research evidence. This study's methodology is a systematic review that provides a practitioner-oriented, evidence-based research approach. Using a thematic synthesis, this dissertation evaluated and configured known scholarship on voice antecedents according to the results of 57 research studies. This dissertation found leader openness and psychological safety were the most salient voice antecedents. Through this study, the researcher extends knowledge on employee voice behavior by clarifying the behaviors that encourage employees to speak up in organizations. Leadership support for the salient antecedents encourages employee constructive ideas and suggestions for workplace improvements that may affect the long-term viability of the organization.;Keywords: employee communication, employee voice, leader openness, leader voice behaviors, psychological safety, saliency, speaking up.
