Abstract/Summary:
This study examines the contribution that structured mentoring programs can play in the development of leadership capacity. Specifically, it seeks to understand the role that mentoring can play in leadership development at the Interior Health Authority.; Covering a geographical area of over 200,000 square kilometers, the Interior Health Authority (IH) provides for the healthcare needs of more than 700,000 British Columbians. IH has identified an impending staffing and leadership crisis, and has introduced the multi-pillared Pathways to Leadership initiative as part of a broader, Organization of Choice initiative, to address this issue. The Management Mentoring Program (MMP), a component of the Pathways to Leadership initiative, has been identified as an underutilized resource.; As a result of this study, IH will be able to determine what role the MMP is currently playing in the development of leadership capacity, and what further role it may be able to play in the future.
