| Conceptualizing Temporary Help Services (THS) as a labor supply distinct from workers in the traditional neo-classical labor market arrangement, time series data from a special bi-annual Supplement to the Current Population Survey are analyzed. First administered in February of 1995 and next in February of 1997, this Supplement sought to clarify and quantify the definition of continent work and define the conditions of workers in alternative labor market arrangement, one such arrangement being the THS industry.; Occupations are established as comparable units of analysis within these competing labor market arrangements. Labor market composition and change over the 2-year span are described as are compensation outcomes between the two arrangements. 1995 and 1997 tenure data for temporary labor market and for assignments are described; aggregated raw data from 1995 are presented to provide evidence for the alternate labor market conceptualization. Although the lack of a single reason for the use of temp labor across occupations challenges this conceptualization, questions remain about wage differentials between the two labor markets. |
