Abstract/Summary:
The goal of this report is to recommend various proactive security measures that can be implemented in different transportation modes and systems within New York City. This work provides background on the current state of transportation security. Critical infrastructure and methods for identifying critical infrastructure are investigated. A case study was performed analyzing Israeli transportation modes and systems and data was collected accordingly. Locations were identified for the implementation of security measures developed and derived from Israeli modes. Security concepts and effects of explosions were recommended for future research.; Proactive security measures alone will not properly secure a system. Nor will a purely law enforcement approach be sufficient. Rather, multi-disciplinary think tank teams must be formed. The purpose of these teams is to analyze critical infrastructure and security priorities, research and develop new security measures, and to implement new measures in systems and operate and maintain those already in place. While many may try to attack our country, a course of proactive defense will not only prevent attacks from happening and deter terrorists, but people will feel safer walking the streets with the knowledge that the government and private industry are doing their utmost to protect them from terrorism.
