| Research indicates that participation in recreation and leisure activities enriches quality of life, encourages the constructive use of free time, enhances an individual's sense of self, and provides the opportunity for successful interpersonal relationships with family, friends, peers, and community. For the disenfranchised homeless population, positive recreation and leisure opportunities are limited or non-existent.; In this study, a recreation program was developed and validated to assist recreation professionals in enhancing the recreation opportunities for homeless adults ages 18 to 35. A jury of experts identified the essential components for this program and practical applications for use by homeless shelters in Connecticut. |
