Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this work is to analyze and validate the stress distribution in spur gear teeth using the contemporary commercial FEM program ANSYS. Solutions obtained were tested against similar work done by other authors.; Spur gear profiles were created in ANSYS by a series of keypoints. The resulting plane stress models were solved by applying proper load and boundary conditions and von Misses stresses were plotted to evaluate the results.; The analysis involved various complications particularly in modeling the tooth profile. Once resolved, the process was shown to be a convenient method for analyzing the spur gears. The results obtained when compared to previous work done [1], [2] are in good agreement and perhaps more accurate.
