Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents the measurement methods to characterize the planar transformer core loss and winding copper loss for high-frequency switching mode power supplies.;A designed planar transformer operating in high-frequency DC/DC converter is measured for the core loss and winding AC resistance using the proposed schemes. The corresponding finite element analysis is conducted to verify the measurement results. Good matching between the measurement and FEA simulation results is achieved, which demonstrates that the proposed measurement schemes are accurate in measuring transformer core loss and winding AC resistance for high-frequency switching mode power supplies.;Useful result curves about transformer core loss and winding AC resistance in switching mode power supplies are provided, which can be used in the transformer loss calculation and can also be used in the transformer design.
