Abstract/Summary:
The three museums discussed in this paper are the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Alberta Branch (UMC-AB), the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League (UCWL) Edmonton Eparchy Museum and Ukrainian Canadian Archives and Museum of Alberta (UCAMA). The study analyses collections, exhibits and related activities of the three museums, which function as an immediate context for the artefacts.;By selecting the elements and aspects of their culture to be preserved and passed on, the museums 'shaped' their heritage. In the process of collecting and exhibiting the museums developed certain 'formulas' of representation of Ukrainian culture in Canada. Some aspects of the collected and exhibited objects of material culture gained more significance while others became less prominent. Ukrainian heritage in Canada is defined by the museums in terms of space, time and gender spheres of influence. Ukrainian heritage is represented in the museums by the richness of its regional traditions, ancient origins and aesthetic appeal.
