Abstract/Summary:
This empirical research project was a qualitative study examining the coping strategies for professional stress of law enforcement officers. This study was important because, in order to better understand the psychological battering of law enforcement officers and the coping mechanisms they practice, it was essential to examine the effects of the job and how to appropriately cope with the professional stress. This study was based on the life-course theory. The life-course theory was defined as the examination of a person's life experiences. This researcher used a descriptive survey and analyzed design clusters. The findings indicated that most of the officers had healthy outlooks about their profession and showed appropriate coping strategies for professional stress. In conclusion, more research needs to be conducted in order to examine what services are being provided for officers to teach them appropriate coping strategies before professional stress occurs.
