Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of aging on motor performance (movement time and reaction time). There were 35, 36 and 36 participants in young (20 to 30 years), middle aged (40 to 60 years) and elderly (70 and above) group respectively. The order of the procedure, (1) Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) for cognitive disability (only for elderly), (2) A survey questionnaire (questions including health, demographics and dominance), (3) Buffalo Fatigue Scale for fatigue levels, (4) Automatic performance analyzer for simple reaction time, (5) Reciprocal tapping task for movement time, (6) Repetition of step 3. The data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA with post hoc analysis, Pearson's correlation, repeated measures ANOVA with a between factor and unpaired t-test. Motor performance showed delay in the elderly compared to the other two groups, that reciprocal tapping and simple reaction time were negligibly correlated, and fatigue had impact on motor performance.
