| The objective of this study was to examine what individual characteristics predict whether or not a woman receives routine mammograms and do ethnicity, education and/or income levels predict whether or not a woman gets routine mammograms? The California Health Interview Survey database was used to provide an analyzed subset of the secondary data. Ethnic minority women, were less likely to have a mammogram compared to White women and more specifically, Hispanic women were less likely to have a mammogram compared to White women. Although a positive relationship was found amongst income, education and mammography the relationship magnitude was trivial and the null hypothesis was rejected. Further research on why women do not obtain mammograms should include the following variables: fear of finding cancer, radiation dose, the fact that it is a painful examination, misinformation, religious views, holistic and/or naturalistic medicine. |
