Abstract/Summary:
This quasi-experimental study was designed to determine whether the use of group art therapy interventions would help the participants work through the grief process, cope more effectively, and maintain or decrease their stress levels, which could lead to improved health. Three out of five women were chosen for this study: the first lost her husband, the second lost her father, and the third lost her son.;Data was collected through the assessment Draw-a-Person-in-the-Rain (Hammer, 1980) and the self-reporting Stress Symptom Scale (Elkin, 2001). These were used at the first and last of the total ten art therapy sessions. Views of the women's journey through the grieving process using art are presented, including 24 images.;Results of this research indicated positive changes. Group art therapy proved to be an effective modality in working through the pain of grief, increasing coping skills, and maintaining or decreasing stress levels.
