The purpose of this research is to determine the current situation of dairy farms in the Western United States in reference to security issues on the farm. This includes the perception of dairy farmers toward farm security and what security methods they are currently employing on the dairy.;Surveys were developed and sent to 514 dairies located in a five-state area that included Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, and Montana. One hundred and twenty-four dairies responded to the survey. The questions the dairymen were asked were constructed to determine the current security situation on the farm, and the producer's attitudes toward intentional and unintentional contamination on the farm. The questions were formulated to be quantifiable and easily understood as a method to increase accuracy in the data set and to provide a high degree of confidence in the results.
