This thesis gives our work on the structure-activity and structure-toxicity studies of organoselenium compounds with the catalytic activity of glutathione peroxidase which is the major defense in the lens of the eye against hydrogen peroxide. Three approaches have been explored in an attempt to reduce the toxicities of the selenium compounds in the lens epithelial cell culture assay.
