Abstract/Summary:
In this thesis, I will review the Monte Carlo method and the thermal ratchets along with their applications to the problems in condensed matter physics.; The Monte Carlo method was applied to the simulations of surface smoothing, superconductor vortex dynamics, and quantum dot formations. The thermal ratchet was applied to the problems such as the surface smoothing during Molecular Beam Epitaxy growth and reducing vortex density in superconductors.
