Abstract/Summary:
Topology optimization has been studied extensively for the past decade. Both homogenization method and density-dependent material models have been implemented using finite element method. In this thesis, topology optimization of 2-D continuum is attempted using element free galerkin method (EFGM). Our objective is to explore the possibility of using a "messless method" in topology of optimization.; Starting from a brief reviews of element free galerkin method, this thesis develops sensitivity analysis in EFGM. These data are then used in topology optimization for minimum compliance design. The results so far are encouraging. EFGM may be a viable alternative to finite element method in topology optimization.
