The battery is one of the important factors that determine the performance of the electric vehicle (EV). To find out the battery characteristics under the EV driving condition is a good method to select the batteries for EV design. In this study, the real time data was taken from the electric vehicle using an on board data acquisition system designed at UMASS. Lowell. The electric vehicle was driven on a typical commute while the battery current as well as other data was taken at 0.1 second intervals.; Four different lead acid batteries, Hawker, Delphi, small and big Sonnenschein, were tested at three different temperatures, 0, 20 and 40 degree Celsius, to find out the temperature dependency. These batteries were subjected to the same operating conditions as those in the car.; The study investigates Ah efficiency, Voltage efficiency, Wh efficiency, AC Impedance and maximum Power Density for each batteries.; As a result, some battery voltage dipped below the permissible level (10.5 V) at 0 and 20 degree Celsius while others were within the operating range. Some batteries are more sensitive to the temperature variations than others.
