Abstract/Summary:
This thesis contains the work I have done over the course of my Ph.D. program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, under the supervision of Prof. Louise Dolan. I have studied properties of Type IIB strings on supersymmetric curved backgrounds with Ramond-Ramond flux. I used the hybrid worldsheet formalism of Berkovits Vafa and Witten to compute string tree level correlation functions on an anti deSitter (AdS) background, AdS 3 × S3 × K3, where K3 is the real four-dimensional compact manifold with SU(2) holonomy. In the second part of the thesis I calculated a tree level amplitude on pp-wave background using the light-cone string field theory formalism. Computation of strings on curved backgrounds, including their correlation functions, is an important topic in string theory, especially in the context of the holographic correspondence between non-abelian gauge theories and superstring theories.
