Abstract/Summary:
The current study reviewed the relationship between ego identity status and the use of alcohol on acts of violence. Participants were 525 university students (144 men and 381 women) ranging in age from 17 through 57 years of age. Participants completed two self-report questionnaires: The Core Alcohol and Drug Survey (CORE), which assessed the use of alcohol and the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status (EOM-EIS), which assessed ego identity status. It was hypothesized that less mature participants would exhibit a higher use of alcohol and acts of violence than more mature participants. Statistical analysis included chi-squares and analysis of variance. Analysis of the ego identity maturity (less and more mature) on the use of alcohol and acts of violence were inconclusive given the limited more mature sample. However, results found males used a higher amount of alcohol and engage more frequently in acts of violence than females.
