Abstract/Summary:
This project report examined the phenomenon of police officer stress, and physical activity as both a healthy and economical solution to this problem. Information was obtained by conducting an exhaustive literature review via library and Internet sources. The research findings suggest that most police departments fail to require any in-service standards of physical fitness for their personnel. In addition, studies have demonstrated the economic benefits of physical activity on various occupations outside of policing.; This issue is important to police agencies because there is evidence that frequent physical activity has a positive effect on a person's overall well-being, job satisfaction, and health. This project report advises that police agencies implement mandatory physical activity-based stress management programs for police officers. Filtering such programs into police agencies will enhance the physical well-being of police officers, improve effectiveness and productivity, and ultimately reduce stress-related healthcare costs.
