Abstract/Summary:
The world of grass roots basketball was revolutionized in the period from 2003-2008. The financial involvement from athletic apparel companies created an environment of extreme competition for attention and placed young, talented teenage athletes in a frenzy of critical observation. Through a historical and philosophical approach, this study attempts to evaluate the cause and effect relationships that impacted the period in question and to provide conclusions and recommendations based on the findings. The efforts of Adidas, Nike, and Reebok and the resultant effects on particular athletes, coaches, and other components of the grass roots basketball community receive paramount attention. Consequently, the initiatives will prove to be conducive of not only the environment of grass roots basketball, but also of the time period in United States history.
