Abstract/Summary:
Karl Marx wrote very little about morality. He was not a moral philosopher, and he never attempted to develop a moral theory. In fact, Marx wrote that morality is a form of ideology spawned by capitalism and class society. It would be unnecessary in the communist society of the future. Despite this, much of Marx's criticism of capitalism and his view of future society was written in a distinctly moral tone.;Is there a coherent view of morality to be found in the writings of Karl Marx? If so, what is this view? Can the apparent contradiction between Marx's rejection of morality and his use of it be resolved? These are the questions that this thesis will examine and attempt to answer.
