Abstract/Summary:
Information technology has provided educators with alternatives in delivery of course material. Lectures are being replaced with computer-based tutorials and the chalkboard is taking the form of multimedia presentations (computerization of text and graphics with sound and animation). Is the increased use of multimedia in today's college classroom resulting in greater student motivation? The general findings were that student motivation or interest is affected in a positive manner by multimedia course presentation, However, other course delivery methods, such as step-by-step oral instructions, appear to be perceived as more motivating than multimedia-based course materials. This study was undertaken to explore the use of multimedia in presentation and delivery of college course materials and the effect on student motivation.
