Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the 40-yard dash and the 20-yard shuttle to playing time of community college football players. Twenty-seven football players from Gavilan Community College were tested in the 40-yard dash and the football 20-yard shuttle test. On day one, all subjects were tested in the 40-yard dash. Each subject completed three trials with a minimum three-minute rest between each trial. Testing order was non-skilled players, semi-skilled players, and skilled players. On day two, the football 20-yard shuttle test was administered with each subject completing three trials with a minimum three-minute rest. Testing order was skilled players, semi-skilled players, and non-skilled players.;Results from the study suggest that there is no relationship between the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle test and playing time. The relationship between the 40-yard dash and the 20-yard shuttle test was statistically significant (.86; p ≤ .05).
